Berlin: 2012-2017 Poikas is an analogue series I created in my Berlin studio. It portrays the "boy next door", many of whom I met in everyday situations in Berlin. Poikas sheds light on the self-consciousness and vulnerability that often hide beneath the facade of youthful masculinity. When I moved from London to Berlin in 2010, I searched for a creative space where I could develop as an artist. I found what I was looking for in Neukoelln, right along the path of the Berlin Wall. I moved into a fin de siécle store-front and began renovating it with a group of friends. Once finished, I found myself staring at the rough, oil-painted walls and their wonderful Jugendstil decorations. Suddenly, I could see Poikas posing, playing and fantasising in that very room.
